Spiritual parenting is about passing on faith to the next generation.
Faith - firm conviction, personal surrender, corresponding conduct.
Faith comes from relationship, not just from knowledge.
John 15:5 "I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing."
Our abiding in the vine is the essential part.
Rather than going after the fruit (love, joy, peace, patience, etc) we go after Jesus and He creates the fruit in us. This is not to say there isn't a place for a disciplined life, but rather our lives follow after Christ, not the fruit.
What can you continue, or begin, to model for your children?
Faith is supernatural. It is the Holy Spirit who establishes faith in our children.
We can cultivate environments that will cause growth in our children.
Our children are eye-witnesses to our lives.
What are our children seeing us do, the way we behave, what we watch, listen to, that provides opportunity for transformation?
A Family Mission Statement is a good way to make a stand for what your family will be known for.
What words would you want in your mission statement?
What words would your children want in your mission statement?
The Bible is not just a collection of good stories about good people who display good characteristics. The Bible is God's Story. It is the Story He wrote from the beginning and His Story continues on today, through us. We are part of God's Story. But we are not the main characters. God is the main character, all the rest are support roles. This changes the way we talk about God's Story and children learn that they are not the centre of the Story, God is.

It's good to refer to and show your children, but don't let it replace you telling the story as well. Remember that you don't have to tell the whole story at once. You can make it as elaborate or simple as you like. Remember to keep God as the main character, the rest of us are the supporting characters.
